Holmesdale CC hosted their annual U11 Mini Festival on Saturday and welcomed 160+ children to complete in a 16 team softball tournament which was blessed with outstanding sunshine.

In the hotly compete group stages Beckenham, Tunbridge Wells and Holmesdale came out on top progressing to the Cup Knockout rounds along with the second placed sides. Others flowed into a Shield and Plate competitions.

With the BBQ on, ice cream on sale and water bottles charged through the invigorating England World Cup win, the day acts as an important day for Holmesdale who’s values are found on the basis of being a family oriented, a centre for Junior cricketing excellence and where children and adults of all abilities can come and have fun playing the game!

Otford CC made the greatest improvement throughout the day winning the Shield final, whilst Bromley beat Holmesdale 6 in the Plate final. The main Cup competition saw the unbeaten Beckenham play Holmesdale 1. Beckenham won the toss and elected to bat first. Tight bowling from Holmesdale, a run out on the first ball and some great fielding saw Beckenham restricted to 40 runs off their 8 overs. In response Holmesdale 1s made ease of the run chase with JC Vermeulen retiring on 25 and the team scoring 55 off 7 overs to win, held back throughout by brilliant catching from Beckenham.

Holmesdale thank all the club members and parents who helped out during the day and our sponsors Amherst Accounting for their continued support. This Sunday Holmesdale host an U9 tournament and have fingers crossed this spell of good weather continues. For more details go online at Holmesdalecricketclub.co.uk or find us on Twitter
