Match Reports

Match Reports for junior games will be published here during the season

U13B v Sevenoaks Vine U13 B

Winning the toss, The Vine chose to bat and began strongly with some determined batting from Kevin Lui who retired on 33. Olivia Shellard was decisive in her bowling taking 4 wickets for 10 runs in her 4 overs. Once Brown was dismissed by Newman (LBW) in the tenth over, the Vine could only put on another 35 runs, giving Holmesdale a total of 93 runs to chase.

Karangoda and Lee opened the batting and were an effective partnership with Lee retiring on 32. Johnson came in to help bring Holmesdale to a total of 97 in the twelfth over with the loss of just one wicket. The team played well to bring home their first win of the season.

U11 A v Kings Hill

After bowling them out for less than 30 in their previous meeting, the Holmesdale boys were expecting a much tougher challenge from the Kings Hill side.

Kings Hill were sent in to bat and slowly accumulated runs for the first few overs. Some reasonably tight bowling through the middle saw the runs stemmed somewhat, however, with wickets in hand they were able to get away towards the end of the innings. Kings Hill finishing their 16 overs on 3/91.

Holmesdale got off to a flyer in reply with 12 off the first over. From there it was a slippery slope, losing consistent wickets to fall to 4/39 after 8 overs. A fantastic innings from George Sorrell (28 retired) along with Christian Phillips saw us get back into the game. The tail finished the chase off to see us chase down the runs in the last over with 2 wickets to spare.

U11 A v Castle Hill - 22-05-18

Holmesdale won the toss and elected to bowl. With a few late arrivals, we were still left one man short for the first few overs. Castle Hill capitalised on this with some proactive batting getting to 0/37 off 4 overs. Some tight bowling through the middle overs and towards the end managed to restrict them to 7/89 at the end of their 16 overs - a brilliant fight back.

The Holmesdale lads started positively with the bat but some good bowling meant that we were restricted and a few wickets fell in the 4th and 5th overs. The scoring rate was kept where it needed to be throughout the innings as Jasper Stone (19*) and Will Brook (15*) guided us home with an unbeaten 37 run partnership.

The run chase was not without excitement. With us needing 4 runs off 2 overs, Castle Hill brought back their opening quick and a fantastic over meant that it would be 4 runs off the last over with the other opener to come back on. With all the parents on the edge of their seats, the cool-headed captain (Will) punished the first ball of the over to the cover boundary for a one bounce four sealing a fantastic fighting victory for Holmesdale!

Also a big thank you to Henry Lochnan & Paddy Walton (2 U15 players)  coming to support and score for us.

U13B in narrow loss to Plaxtol - 21-05-18

On a misty morning at St Lawrence with a wet outfield, damp wicket and the prospect of sunshine later in the morning, it was a good toss to lose and the U13 B's captain Jimmy Mayes put Plaxtol into bat.  Ed Lee and Will Tarry opened the bowling for Holmesdale and Will struck in the third over (Plaxtol 14/1) and then Ed bowled their number three to peg Plaxtol back to 19/2.  Unfortunately that was the last wicket for a while as Plaxtol's batsmen put on a 65-run stand for the third wicket with both batsmen retiring before a straightforward run out took the score to 84/3.  Ed Gillhouley took the last Plaxtol wicket to fall with a plumb LBW to take the score to 110/4 before the innings closed after 20 overs at 148.

That was a tough target for the home side at over seven an over and after a first over at the required rate, two Holmesdale wickets fell in successive balls to ones that kept low with Nick Munday and Jimmy Mayes the unlucky recipients.  Ed Lee and Timod Karangoda steadied the innings for a while with a 29-run partnership before Ed was dismissed LBW and Timod followed him five runs later, out the same way, having made a composed 20.  Will Tarry and Josh Tate contributed useful knocks of 12 and 13 each and Ed Gillhouley struck three fours in a rapid 20 before being bowled.  The last wicket fell on 111, leaving Holmesdale 37 short of the Plaxtol target.

Thanks go to the parents for their support - in particular Jane Gillhouley for managing the side, Varuni Karangolafor preparing the match tea, James Tarry for umpiring and Dan Lee for scoring.

U11A win in against Tunbridge Wells

The U11A's faced Tunbridge Wells on Tuesday. We elected to bat first and got off to a shaky start losing several wickets. The innings was turned around by the middle/lower order featuring some hard hitting from Will Huddy towards the end of the 16 overs. Holmesdale were bowled out for 85 - a respectable score on a dodgy pitch.

Tunbridge Wells made it difficult for the bowlers with some careful yet effective batting up the top of the order. However, Holmesdale showed their class with the ball to restrict them and pick up several wickets through the middle overs to restrict them to 6/72 off their 16 overs. Another win to a very talented Holmesdale outfit.

U13B v Cowdrey - 13-05-18

Holmesdale U13B played their first match of the season at Cowdrey. Batting first, Holmesdale were all out for 95 after 18 overs. Jessie Gale was the mainstay of the innings with a top score of 31. Holmesdale had a strong start with a second wicket partnership of 42 between Jessie and Luke Sumner and a third wicket partnership of 30 between Jessie and Jimmy Mayes. However, Holmesdale could only muster a further 20 runs for the loss of their last five wickets.

Gale and Shellard opened the bowling, with Shellard taking the first wicket. Jimmy Mayes, with the best bowling figures, took the remaining 2 wickets conceding just 6 runs off 3 overs. Cowdrey comfortably reached their target of 97 for the loss of 3 wickets in the 17th over.

The team played in the spirit of the game, supporting each other and enjoyed the match despite the loss. Thank you to the parents for their support, Charlie Compton for umpiring and Dan Lee for scoring. We welcome Plaxtol at home next week.

The Holmesdale U11As were sent into bat first on a field that looked like it would be tough to score on.

They started slowly but steady as they took on some good bowling from the Kings Hill side.

Joe (25 retired) led the way from the top of the order and the conservation of wickets early meant that the

middle/lower order could cash in during the later overs. We ended our innings on 82-5 after our allotted 16

The Holmesdale boys knew that it wasn't easy to score, however, also knew they would have to be

disciplined with the ball to restrict Kings Hill. With a brilliant display of fast bowling mixed with some crafty

spin work, they were able to bowl out Kings Hill for 22 inside 9 overs. Wickets were shared amongst the

bowlers. A fantastic first game of the season from what looks like an extremely talented cricket team.
