Club News - Holmesdale Elects New Chairman Holmesdale's AGM was held on the 27 March 2009. Mike Smout stepped down as Chairman and Stefan Purdy was elected with immediate effect. Mike has been an asset to the club as Chairman, securing verbal security of tenure of the ground, coaching and playing. He will continue to be a big part of Holmesdale as he plays and develops our affiliation with Halstead CC. The rest of the committee remained the same, with a new post created for the club welfare officers (Jill Bryant & Lee-Anne Fossett). This committee will continue to work to improve the club for all its members.

Welcome to Holmesdale for the 2009 season. As the incoming chairman, I would like to thank all those who have steered the club to success over the past few years and make special mention of the huge volume of work members of the committee do on behalf of the club. In particular, the outgoing chairman, Mike Smout, whose foresight and guidance have left the club in a strong position. Last season we had a record breaking season as both 1st and 2nd XIs won their divisions and achieved promotion, an extraordinary feat. We recognise how tough it will be to maintain the exceptional standards set last year but we have a fantastic club that is growing and developing all the time and I know that there will be no excuses as we start our campaign. The ladies team also brought the club success and achieving promotion during the course of last season. The second year in succession they have improved their level of national league cricket. Players, coaches and supporters should all be proud of their achievements. Our junior section, boys and girls, continues to go from strength to strength and we recognise the hard work that that entails. This season, as well as the 300-350 juniors we will continue to work with, we have 3 boys' under 11 teams, 2 boys' under 13 teams and 3 boys' under 15 teams entered in various leagues and competitions. It is these young players who have the potential to contribute so much to the development of cricket in the area, as well as returning to play for Holmesdale senior teams. We thank all those who enable this organisation to work in bringing a quality cricket education to the maximum number of young people. We want and expect the clubhouse to become more of a social focus for our members. We want it to be a welcoming place in which to socialise and enjoy the atmosphere. We have chosen the 9th May, the day of our first men's league game, to have Sky installed. Ultimately, this will enable us to hold club evenings centred on sports events. British Lions, 20twenty, test matches, world darts etc to name just a few. It is my hope that with your help we can drive the club forward to greater successes both on and off the field. |
